The filmmakers for The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists have given us a slick slapstick animation with a quaint English Pirate Captain and his motley crew, a furious Queen Victoria, and a loveless Charles Darwin.
The terrific animation takes us on a visual high seas adventure before arriving in London where the chase continues in a bathtub racing on a river of exploding bicarbonate soda mixed with vinegar.
I was looking for a character to fall in love with – like Gromit or Wallace or even Feathers McGraw but charming though the characters are no-one captured me in that Aardman way. All madcap slapstick and a bit disneyfied.
